You Left the Door Wide Open All Night represents a small selection of the work Richard Clare has produced since settling in Letchworth in 2010. Previously an abstract painter while living in Barcelona, Clare’s recent work has become more figurative, developing a cast of characters and motifs that inhabit the artist’s ‘other world’, a psychologically skewed universe that, although dreamlike, they are given a realness and authenticity through expressive and intuitive mark-making.
