Group exhibition with key pioneering artists from the middle east; Ahmed Mater, Arwa Alneami, Telfaz 11, Shaweesh, Monira Al Qadiri, Foundland. Curated by Stephen Stapleton and Amal Khalaf, Never Never Land touches upon the humour and sarcasm in art through anecdotes from Arab society. In countries like Saudi Arabia, where public protest is forbidden and dissent is curtailed, artists are still managing to tackle controversial issues through their work. This exhibition examines the potential of humour as a critical instrument for the analysis of social, political and cultural issues with works ranging from installations, video and posters that make witty and dark observations, while simultaneously offering insightful commentary on the absurdities of everyday life.
