On Beauty

Overview

Beauty strikes us individually and as a shared experience. It’s not so much what is actually there, as what it transmits; the awareness or how we feel in response is what we can call beauty. With each of the works in this exhibition something of that experience of beauty is evident- it could be loosely described as stemming from an abstract sense, more a mental experience than an attempt or mission to portray beauty. Tonico Lemos Auad, Hannah Collins, Michel François, Luigi Ghirri, Asta Gröting, Susan Hiller, Craigie Horsfield, Lilian Lijn, Sidney Nolan, Tristano Di Robilant, Bernhard Schobinger, Trevor Shearer, Santo Tolone, Francis Upritchard, Dan Wolgers and writing by Colm Tóibín.
