Overview

(your eyesight gets better and better in a short rate of time) Ian is a practising sculptor, who first came to prominence in the 1990s with a series of large-scale melted plastic sculptures that celebrated creativity through the destructive act. His practice remains intensely experimental, involving different processes and diverse materials. Ian has exhibited internationally in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and Berlin, and his work is held in both public and private collections worldwide. He is also a regular collaborator with gavin Turk’s House of Fairy Tales, creating live material workshops and performances. Ian is currently head of sculpture at University of Southampton Winchester School of Art. He has embarked on an innovative teaching strategy of collaboratively remaking historical sculptures, including Anthony Caro’s Early one morning and Jean Tinguely’s Homage to New York.
