Overview

This group exhibition gathers five hanging sculptures (2013-2014) by Tom Esam and Josh Whitaker, as well as a living installation, untitled The Chicken Museum (2014) by Thomas Mailaender. While the first are appropriations of the signage used in the fried chicken industry, the latter metamorphoses the gallery space into a real hen house, confronting chickens to a hundred A3 laser prints collected online. Orchestrated as an experiment, the exhibition questions the artistic value of both the design culture of the fast-food establishment and the amateur images that can be found on the Internet. Starting outside the gallery, The Chicken Show leads to a forceful mise en abyme, the viewer inevitably identifying with the animals and their peculiar reactions to the museum that surrounds them. The opening will be held on Friday 30 May 2014, from 5pm.
