On Thursday May 23rd at 12:00pm in London, Russo-Brazilian performance artist Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich is performing a live work addressing issues of human trafficking and modern slavery and the affect this ‘commodification of the human body’ has on our physical bodies. Similar to the above image, the artist’s naked body will be locked in a suitcase and abandoned in front of a transport station in London. The performance is interactive. It completely relies on the reactions of the public. The moment one of the members of the audience opens the suitcase the performance will be over. An envelope will then be handed over with a message about the artist’s position towards human trafficking and his purpose to encourage people to think about it and empower them to participate and try to change it. The performance will launch the opening of the artist’s first solo show titled Decorative Sacredness at the Gazelli Art House in London, Mayfair. The exhibition reveals the artist’s critical examination of modern slavery and is a timely artistic intervention amidst the ongoing discussions on the unknown scale of the criminal practice in the UK and internationally.
