Overview

ONLINE EXHIBITION: Our June online exhibition celebrates the trailblazing modernist artist Natalia GONCHAROVA and other female artists of the Russian avant-garde. Coinciding with Goncharova's first retrospective in the UK at Tate Modern (6 June until 8 September), this digital presentation champions the female artists who, despite sitting on the edge of art history with preference often given to their male counterparts, emerged with some of the most radical and progressive ideas of the 20th century. Alongside Goncharova's 15-part piece Misticheskie Obrazy Voiny [Mystical Images of War] (1914) are intimate and behind-the-scene photographs by Alexander RODCHENKO, capturing his wife Varvara STEPANOVA together with artist Lyubov POPOVA and muse Lilya Yuryevna BRIK – all key figures within the Russian avant-garde.
