'It is so green outside it's difficult to leave the window' Our July online exhibition showcases Shelagh Wakely's acute exploration of the natural world, her obsession with organic material and fauna, as well as her interest in metamorphosis and transformation. Featured is Wakely's series of black and white photographs, taken from the window of her first floor flat, documenting the transformation of an outdoor garden from spring 1974 to spring 1979. Titled It is so green outside it's difficult to leave the window, the work is essentially a love letter to her neighbour downstairs. Other works showcased in this exhibition depict the artist's interest in tracing the fragile and ever-changing behaviour of nature, with the use of organic materials inclined towards weathering and deterioration, such as gilded fruit and disintegrating leaves.
