Alberto Giacometti : In His Own Words

2 Feb-16 Apr 2016

Luxembourg & Dayan
London W1S 3PA

Overview

Taking its cue from a letter Alberto Giacometti wrote to his New York dealer Pierre Matisse (1947), the exhibition explores a pivotal period in his career. Giacometti’s letter focuses on a series of sculptures from the years 1925-1936, providing insights into his practice and marking a deep personal and stylistic crisis, which gradually led him to withdraw from traditional sculptural techniques and to experiment with Primitivism, Cubism, and Surrealism, in order to form the idiosyncratic style that characterises his later work.
