Roberto Almagno sculpts exclusively with wood which he collects in the forests outside his native city of Rome and refines into works of great formal perfection that retain a contemporary lightness. These exquisitely carved, abstract forms convey both the material’s fragility and its transformative power as the sculptures inhabit a world that rests between nature and the manmade. Born in 1954 in Aquino, Italy, Almagno trained at the Instituo d’Arte and the Academy of Fine Art in Rome. He currently lives and works in Rome where he combines his work as an artist with teaching at the Estudio d’Arte, Rome.
