Overview

Turner Contemporary is a unique backdrop for Dan Graham’s outdoor pavilion Two Cubes, One Rotated 45° (1986), located on the gallery’s South Terrace. This exterior pavilion by the renowned American artist is designed to be walked through and around and is inspired by the pleasure pavilions and gazebos popular in the nineteenth century. The use of glass and two-way mirrors alludes to modern office buildings but unlike corporate architecture, Graham’s pavilions are transparent and reflective both inside and out, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior space.
