Tala Madani

25 Jan-23 Mar 2014

Nottingham Contemporary
Nottingham NG1 2GB

Overview

Tala Madani is one of the most original painters to have emerged in recent years. She combines the figurative and abstract in comic, paradoxical paintings and stop-motion animations. Her work often reflects on masculinity, group dynamics, sexuality and power play. Gleeful and sinister middle-aged men take part in obscure, absurd and sometimes regressive behaviour. The legacies of modern painting are reflected in her in bold brushstrokes and striking compositions. For this, her first solo exhibition in a UK institution, Madani is presenting a large selection of both new and recent works. Tala Madani was born in Iran in 1981, and lives in Los Angeles.
