An Unknown God

30 Sep-6 Oct 2011

The Cello Factory / The London Group
London SE1 8TJ

Overview

A solo exhibition of new works by London artist Robert Phillips. Private View: 30th September 2011, 6pm – 9pm open until 6th October 2011, daily 1pm – 7pm. The title of this exhibition refers to an anomaly of Classical culture. In the search to appease the gods it is said that the Ancient Greeks devoted altars to ‘An Unknown God’ for fear of the repercussions of not giving offerings to deities their culture had not been made aware of or that their mortality did not allow them to understand. This exhibition brings together sculpture and photography by London based artist Robert Phillips that allude to the metaphor this oddity offers; through these mediums Robert presents windows into his vision of a contemporary dystopia. www.robertphillips.info
