Ursula Schulz-Dornburg + Lawrence Weiner

18 Nov-19 Dec 2009

Tristan Hoare Gallery
London W1T 5HJ

Overview

From 18 November 2009 Patrick Lichfield’s old art-photographic studios in Notting Hill will come back to life as a venue to show international contemporary art. Curator Tristan Hoare’s launch exhibition deals with concepts of time. American conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner’s outsize lettering TURNED AS THE WORLD TURNS will be mounted on the outside of The Lichfield Studios, whilst the work of German artist Ursula Schulz-Dornburg will be displayed in the studios. This will be Schulz-Dornburg’s first major UK show and will include work from her seminal Sonnenstand / Solar Position series, taken during her journey to Santiago de Compostela. The images capture the movement of light in the nine hermitages that line the medieval pilgrimage route, turning the chapels into sundials. A second series of work shows the timeless landscapes of the deserts of old Mesopotamia, present-day Iraq.
