Avis Newman : Mobile Relations

22 Jan-2 Mar 2013

East Gallery, Norwich University Of The Arts
Norwich NR2 4AE

Overview

Newman’s canvas work, objects and works on paper show a longstanding preoccupation with notions of origin and language as embodied in the initial moment of tracing, and with the genesis of the mark. In her most recent works Newman explores an eternal preoccupation – that of boundary, the unframed and the incomplete. Composed of separate interrelating elements these works suggest a metaphor for thought itself as a mobile set of relations that can change in space and time and which interfere with any anticipation we might have of completion. This exhibition brings together a cycle of works which represent these ideas. Avis Newman: Mobile Relations is curated by Simon Granger, Senior Lecturer, Fine Art at Norwich University College of the Arts.
