12 May-6 Jun 2015

East Gallery, Norwich University Of The Arts
Norwich NR2 4AE

Overview

This rare exhibition brings together works by Norfolk-born fisherman John Craske (1881 - 1943). After a serious illness in 1917 Craske started making paintings of boats and the sea and later turned to embroidery. The exhibition is selected by author and Craske biographer Julia Blackburn and NUA’s Professor Neil Powell. Works on display include both Craske's masterpiece tapestry, The Evacuation of Dunkirk lent by Norfolk Museums Service, and pieces from the substantial collection of works owned by Aldeburgh Music and the Britten-Pears Foundation.
