Cotman and Crome : Seeing Through Paintings
1 Dec 2012-17 Mar 2013
Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery
Norwich NR1 3JU
Paintings by Norwich School artists, as they have never been seen before. This display uses x-rays to show what is hidden under the surface of paintings by John Crome and John Sell Cotman which are part of our permanent collection. For the first time, it is revealed, not just how the artists composed their pictures, but also the surprising bases that they painted on – including an old coach door, cupboard doors and mattress ticking.
