Overview

An Gee Chan is primarily a visual artist but the source for her images is often from her own written stories and jotted down dreams. She is influenced by what she observes around her, stories in the newspapers and by the narratives she finds in everyday life. An Gee Chan was invited to use the gallery as a project space and the current exhibition consists mostly of the work she has produced in this three-week time scale. Chan invited visitors to the gallery to contribute to an artwork. They were asked to take a character from one of her stories, and tear it out of paper. She then used these as stencils to create the large-scale black and white print called Let’s Collapse and Relax. She has also made a mural of printed panels on the exterior wall of the gallery on Redchurch Street. An Gee Chan comes from Hong Kong and is a second year student on the MA Printmaking course at the Royal College of Art.
