The Brutalist Playground

The Brutalist Playground will be an immersive, touchable and conceptual exhibition that will occupy the entire Architecture Gallery at 66 Portland Place. A commission by architecture collective Assemble and artist Simon Terrill, the exhibition will explore the abstract play spaces that were devised as part of housing estates in the mid-twentieth century, recreating visual elements from a number of London estates, including, Churchill Gardens, Pimlico, the Brunel Estate, Paddington and the Brownfield Estate, Poplar. In addition to the experimental installation, a two-screen projection will be used to display reproductions of archival material, contemporary photographs and still and moving images.
