Overview

Three immense chandeliers, painstakingly constructed from 9,000 plaster cast human bones, engulf the darkened gallery space. Created by Sussex-born artist Jodie Carey for Towner’s second commissioned exhibition, they loom imposingly in the chilled silence, enveloping the viewer in an atmosphere of stillness, foreboding and awe. Each chandelier weighs more than one tonne.
