Inspired by 60s and 70s archive film footage of the South Coast, this exhibition brings together an eclectic mix of artists whose work forms a strong connection with place, whether real or imagined – including Eric Ravilious, Louisa Paris, Grayson Perry and Tracey Emin. The exhibition also contains a newly commissioned work entitled Southern Discomfort by young people from Eastbourne and Bexhill, which uses archive footage and interactive technology to stimulate an exploration of ideas of home and identity. This project has been enabled by the Screen South and the UK Film Council’s Digital Film Archive Fund, supported by the National Lottery.
