Alexander Heaton heads out from the artistic trends of his time to literally challenge forces of nature. For “TREBUCHET” Heaton’s paintings will be exhibited in a specifically crafted environment within the gallery. His work is concerned with the idea of the wanderer, bringing painting up to date from the traditions of the romantic Scandinavian and German painters of the 18th and 19th centuries. He transforms traditional elements with the “volkisch”. Creatures of ancient folklore often populate his landscapes. The work is characterized by a keen interest in depicting the sublime phenomena perceived by all the senses, whilst teetering on the edge of an abyss.
