Overview

Maru¨a Sagadin (b. Ljubljana, Slovenia) is based in Vienna. Her practice centres on the relationship between language, architecture and sculpture, drawing inspiration from pop and subculture sources. In March 2016 Sagadin will present a new series of sculptural works in the gallery at SPACE Mare St and a related public work. Her sculptures will be developed in response to urban life in Hackney—reflecting perspectives from the general commercialisation of urban space to the personal experiences of the individual resident. Sagadin studied architecture at the Technical University in Graz and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her work has been shown widely in Europe and USA, including the selected upcoming and recent exhibitions at Austrian Cultural Forum, New York (2016); Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna (2015); Kunstraum Kreuzberg, Berlin (2014); Neue Galerie, Innsbruck (2014); 21er Haus, Vienna (2012) and MAK Center, Los Angeles (2010). This will be her first exhibition in the UK.
