Overview

For the third instalment of Edition, an annual month-long exhibition which acts as a testing ground for innovation and cross-disciplinary collaborations, Cornerhouse presents a new commission by Hafsah Naib. Naib devises ‘creative systems’ that lay bare video production methods, allowing her and others to switch roles between audience member, participant and collaborator. Following the artist’s open call requesting ideas for a tiny film, three were selected for realisation. Visitors to the exhibition will follow a path that unpicks the process behind this experience: from screen test to production, editing and exhibition, exploring the fascinating yet uneasy interplay of shared authorship and artistic intent. The final cut of the resulting footage is viewed through one-way mirrored screens, drawing parallels with surveillance techniques and urging a complicit and conscious participation in the act of viewing.
