Overview

This first UK solo exhibition of works by Stanya Kahn presents a selection of recent videos and drawings characterised by the artist’s signature mixture of dark comedy, visceral characters and reluctant optimism. The video works navigate trauma and resilience, with mundane interactions and casual jokes belying a deeper consciousness of environmental concerns, social and political alienation. Whether made of flesh and blood, plastic or crumpled paper, her characters’ struggle for success (or mere survival) in a profoundly absurd world is thrown into relief by the works’ underlying current of self-deprecating and occasionally fragile humour.
