Allora & Calzadilla’s ‘Foreign in a Domestic Sense’ features new sculpture, performance, photo and video works. The exhibition continues the artists’ ongoing investigation into how the nature of language, the politics of speech and the magnitude of gestures intersect with uncanny vibrancy in a wide range of materials. From performative utterances to mark-making traces, Allora & Calzadilla take the inherently social, political and cultural nature of semiotic circuitry as the conceptual base from which to develop their artistic practice, while simultaneously playing close attention to the singular and corporeal dimensions of vocal expression.
