Some Like it Hot

Overview

Some Like It Hot presents new projects from the staff of the Jewellery and Textiles Programme at Central Saint Martins through the perspective of temperatures required to fabricate materials: some designers need to operate at 1000 C, while others work below zero. Making in design and craft encompasses transformative processes which often need to be executed at specific temperatures. The transition from Stone Age to Iron Age evidences how, by expanding our mastery of heat processes, craft makers colonised new ways of making leading across millennia to the cutting-edge techniques of today's contemporary practice.
