Ian Jenkins, Senior Curator in the Department of Greek & Rome at the British Museum, investigates the idea that more than any other civilization in antiquity, Ancient Greece is remarkable for the central place it gave to sculpture of the human body. It could be said that the Greeks invented the body in art or, at least, the idealized male body conceived as a thing of beauty and bearer of meaning.
