Overview

A series of pinhole photographs retrace W.G. Sebald's Austerlitz. Karen has spent six months making the work, tracking Sebald’s and Austerlitz’s journey. She has created a series of powerful, moving images that will be staged in Wapping, not so far from where our protagonist, Austerlitz, lived in Mile End. Austerlitz is about the recovery of memory. A child travels on the last kindertransport out of Prague to England, escaping the Nazis and, as an old man, begins to recover his memory of that journey and the family he left behind.
