Uriel Orlow : Other Plant Stories

28 Sep-19 Nov 2016

The Showroom
London NW8 8PQ

Overview

A major new commission which explores the botanical world as a stage for politics at large through film, photography, installation and sound. Based on a herbarium, the works acts as ‘specimens’ pointing to a variety of themes, including the botanical legacies of colonialism, flower diplomacy, plant migration and invasive alien species as well as the role of classification and naming of plants. Working from the dual vantage points of South Africa and Europe, this open archive also includes works by other artists who are exploring similar terrains.
