Corita Kent and Ciara Phillips : Pull Everything Out

30 Jun-26 Aug 2012

Spike Island
Bristol BS1 6UX

Overview

Corita Kent was a Pop Art pioneer known for her graphic silkscreen prints that took inspiration from advertising straplines, billboards and commercial packaging. She was also an activist and teacher, who, during her time as a nun at the Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles from 1947 to 1968, collaborated with students to produce artwork that responded to events such as the Vietnam War and Civil Rights movement. Her work is shown alongside that of Ciara Phillips, a Glasgow-based artist whose work shares Kent’s ethos in its collaborative spirit and exploration of materials, method and process.
