Overview

In this ambitious new series of oil paintings on panel, Andrew Mackenzie seeks to investigate the abiding presence of romantic and sublime landscape. He has produced paintings which appear to include some of the ingredients of conventional landscape painting - trees, cliffs, waterfalls, bodies of water - but which, through unusual treatments of surface and colour, coupled with an abstract layered working process, contain interventions which undermine this illusion.
