MARGARET MELLIS : PAINTINGS & CONSTRUCTIONS

5 Oct-12 Nov 2016

Redfern Gallery
London W1S 3HL

Overview

Nearly three decades after Margaret Mellis first showed at The Redfern Gallery, this exhibition includes some of her earliest paintings from the 1930s, as well as works completed during her residence on the Cap d'Antibes (1947-49); the colour structures and painted reliefs of the 1960s and 70s; and the innovative series of driftwood constructions made in Southwold between 1978 and 2001. Many of these works were selected for important solo and group exhibitions from 1950 onwards. Others are being shown for the first time.
