Stanley Whitney : Radical Times

20 May-2 Jul 2016

Lisson Gallery, 67 Lisson St
London NW1 5DA

Overview

Stanley Whitney will present new paintings for his first solo exhibition in London, following his debut with the gallery in Milan and an acclaimed solo exhibition at the Studio Museum in Harlem, NY last year. Whitney has been exploring the formal possibilities of colour within ever-shifting grids of multi-hued blocks and gestural passages since the mid-1970s. His new works draw inspiration from Minimalism, Colour Field painters, jazz and historical artists, including Titian, Velázquez and Cézanne.
