Dorothea Magonet : dis – em – bodied

21 Feb-2 Mar 2014

Kingsgate Project Space
London NW6 2JG

Overview

Kingsgate Gallery presents dis – em – bodied an exhibition by Artist and Alexander teacher Dorothea Magonet. For this solo exhibition she explores the objectification of women’s bodies within western contemporary culture. Magonet’s work draws upon the relationship between the human body, identity and materiality and the way we experience ourselves in our environment. She works in a variety of materials; video, photography and sculpture, incorporating found objects, combining materials with opposing qualities to present ideas of power, weakness, fragility and tenderness.
