Overview

Brian Maguire is a painter whose principal subject matter has always arisen from his times spent working with individuals and groups in many different parts of the globe. Central to all his deeply felt social and political commitments is the desire to uphold the dignity of human beings and tell stories that otherwise may just be ignored. In this new exhibition, the stories originate from, Central America, Latin America and Europe and in many cases are represented through the form of civic and community buildings and engineering projects, both historical and contemporary. The paintings, however despite their sources of inspiration, stand on their own, defying any facile literal reading and in their uniquely expressionist manner command the full attention of the viewer.
