Michael Dean : Government

12 Apr-17 Jun 2012

Henry Moore Institute
Leeds LS1 3AH

Overview

Michael Dean’s (b. Newcastle 1977) sculptures invite touch. They are either the perfect size to carry, or are large, looming, concrete slabs that reflect their surrounding architecture, propped against gallery walls. Tactility is an essential sculptural quality for Dean - he wishes us to first ‘touch with the eyes, and then allow ourselves to touch with the hand’. Government is Dean’s first major solo exhibition, featuring entirely new works, many made on site at the Institute. The exhibition is curated by Lisa Le Feuvre, Head of Sculpture Studies at the Henry Moore Institute.
