Overview
Since the late 1980s, Basil Beattie has returned again and again in his large scale paintings to a motive which can loosely be described as steps or staircase. The image is for Beattie a metaphorical vehicle which has become synonymous his work. The chronology of these works enables the viewer to chart the growth and command that Beattie has developed over his very own energetic form of painting.
