Overview

Gimpel Fils announces an exhibition of Robert Adams (1917 –1984). Adams was an English sculptor who is regarded as one of the foremost sculptors of his generation. In The Sunday Independent, Tim Hilton ranked Adams' work above that of his contemporaries, Kenneth Armitage, Reg Butler, Lynn Chadwick and Bernard Meadows. Robert Adams’ work was exhibited at the Festival of Britain in 1951 and the Venice Biennale in 1952; and again in Venice when he represented Britain in 1962. Gimpel Fils held Adams’ first exhibition in 1948 and has been showing his work at regular intervals since then. The present exhibition is of important sculptures from Adams’ mid career, unique sculptures in bronzed steel. All the works are from the artist’s estate.
