Edward Burtynsky: The Human Signature

17 Oct-24 Nov 2018

Flowers, Cork Street
London W1S 3LZ

Overview

Flowers Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Edward Burtynsky. The exhibition marks the culmination of a five-year multidisciplinary project with long-time collaborators Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier on the Anthropocene, a proposed name for our present geological age in which humans have a profound influence on the current state of the planet. The works in the present exhibition demonstrate what Burtynsky calls the “indelible human signature” on the planet, caused by incursions into the landscape on an industrial scale. Chronicling the major themes of terraforming and extraction, urbanisation and deforestation, Burtynsky conveys the unsettling reality of sweeping resource depletion and extinction.
