Overview

Confessional painting is the indulgence that inspires Deirdre O'Dwyer's austere, abstract paintings, each a conflation of accident and vandalism. O'Dwyer (b. 1978) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. While her practice is based primarily in painting, it extends into other media, including video, sculpture and book-making. She received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was the recipient of the Presidential Merit Scholarship. She was the Starr Fellow at the Royal Academy of Arts from 2007 to 2008. Her work has been exhibited internationally, and most recently at Julius Caesar Gallery (Chicago) and The Suburban/Hyde Park Art Center (Oak Park, Illinois/Chicago).
