Michael Bauer
22 Feb-28 Mar 2013
Alison Jacques
London W1S 3NG
Bauer’s mark-making ranges from lumpen impasto to incongruous narrative detail, so his paintings read as excavations of the artist’s recollections of good friends, anarchic mobs, gangs, ignored bands, or obscure moments in history. His reductive palette, codes and acronymed titles allude to a structure to each work’s premise, but their enduring fascination is precisely because Bauer’s visual language is indecipherable.
