Arnolfini’s galleries will largely break with the convention of presenting an unchanging exhibition of visual art, providing instead a space for artists’ to develop work during residencies, exploring the boundaries between audience and performer through the presentation of work-in-progress, with a focus on participation. Appropriating a phrase from Neagu’s 1969 Palpable Art Manifesto, Beyond the Fatigued Eye hints at the need to consider the potential of art to operate beyond the presentation of a finished, aesthetic experience, asking how art can help us to respond to challenges, whether technological or societal, that threaten culture’s relevance?
