Duru Bebekoğlu, (b. Istanbul, Turkey) graduated from Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, London in 2024. Previously, she partook in BFA Film Production at Concordia University, Montreal in 2020, before relocating to London in 2021. She was recently shortlisted for the Barry Martin Prize in innovation and the Mead Fellowship for her upcoming semi-autobiographical short film.
Known by the alias HOGİNSAN to represent her artistic identity, (inspired by her great-grandmother Suzan), Bebekoğlu's work is deeply rooted in storytelling. She considers herself a modern-day bard, using stories to evoke reactions and connect with people. Her explorations of belonging and identity often revolve around the taste of home, highlighting the unifying power of food - particularly Turkish cuisine.
Objects like fish, pomegranates, onions, and the mythological figure Şahmeran hold special significance in her art, with these items positioned as ‘permanent guests’ at her metaphorical dinner table, and symbolizing her personal and creative journey.
