Junghyun Kim

b. 1997, South Korea

Junghyun Kim was born in Seoul in 1997. He studied Fine Arts at Kookmin University in South Korea and earned a Master's degree in Computational Arts from Goldsmiths. Kim primarily creates works using 3D printing and mechanical devices, employing industrial materials and methods to illuminate the position of humans in a society where quantified individuals and techne transcend physics. Historically, humans have lived with the notion that they are different from animals and machines. However, with the advancement of artificial intelligence surpassing human capabilities and the physical inferiority of humans compared to animals, humans are now pursuing an evolution where they become chimeras by merging techne with their bodies. Kim constructs his world through interactive sculptures that move away from anthropocentric thinking and explore humans' dependency on machines, presenting a new philosophical paradigm.
