Éric van Hove

b. 1975, Algeria

Éric Van Hove is a nomadic artist whose multi media, craft-focused work combines western conceptual, post-colonial and Japanese non-dualist approaches and sensibilities. Taking the experiences of his upbringing in Cameroon, his studies in Brussels, and later his PhD in Japan, van Hove seeks to synthesise these varied environments in his work, linking the local to the global, the preceding and the impending. The hope to create the Total artwork (Gesamtkunstwerk) underlies all van Hove’s work.

Van Hove's work has been acquired by Kanal Pompidou (Belgium), MoMA, New York (USA), and Friesmuseum (New Zealand).

Recent and upcoming projects include a solo exhibition Gesamt vs kunstwerk, Verbeke Foundation, Kemzeke (Belgium), Savoir Faire, Institut Supérieur pour l’Étude du Langage Plastique [ISELP], Brussels (Belgium), The Charbagh Diplomatic Labyrinth, Commission for the New Belgian embassy, Rabat (Morocco), and QRcodes and botany, Commission for the Foundation Jardin Majorelle, Marrakesh, Morocco.
