Incorporating narrative devices and spatial instruments, Can Altay produces “settings” that open themselves to common use and act as sites of collective production. Working across public spaces and art institutions, Altay’s works provide critical reflection on urban phenomena and artistic activity. As an artist and academic, he has engaged in works on the politics of everyday life, public space, urban ecologies, objects of use, and artistic action for over two decades. Altay’s work is often staged and manifested through the spaces, exhibitions and publications he co-produces, bringing together sculpture, photography, display, design products and people.
