Tonico Lemos Auad investigates the personal and cultural significance that everyday objects hold. Auad’s practice employs traditional techniques including embroidery, woodcarving and stonemasonry which serve as a reminder to the viewer of the skills of humankind. His sculptures act as a tool for ideas exploring faith, acts of repair and resistance. In 2019, Stephen Friedman Gallery presented two separate solo projects by Auad and Mamma Andersson at Frieze London, winning the 2019 Frieze Stand Prize.
