HUN KYU KIM : EIGHT UNIVERSES AND THE MACHINE
Nov 15 - Dec 16, 2018
The Approach is delighted to present Eight Universes and The Machine, the first solo exhibition in the UK by South Korean artist Hun Kyu Kim.
Working in the aesthetic tradition of Korean silk painting, Kim crafts precise allegorical pictures, employing a range of both political, contemporary, and art-historical references and influences. Through his skilled application of oriental painting, Kim builds intricate stories about an imaginary world. Yet this fictional world becomes an analogy for Kim’s interpretation and reflections on the very real recent political situation in South Korea and its startling transformation since a stamping out of a corrupt regime.

Mar 28 - May 5, 2019
In her new exhibition, The American Colony, Oppenheim highlights her unique ability to translate historical subjects and early methods of photo-making through contemporary experimental darkroom processes. In these new works, the artist explores stereoscopy in particular, a technique popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for its pseudo-3D effect in which two images of the same object are taken from slightly different angles and then are optically merged through a viewing device.

HEIDI BUCHER : DIE WÄSSER UND LIBELLENLUST
May 15 - Jun 25, 2019
Private view Wed May 15 6pm - 9pm
The Approach is excited to present Die Wässer und Libellenlust, a solo exhibition of works by Heidi Bucher. The show focusses on water and the symbol of the dragonfly, two major aspects of her practice that resonated throughout the late ‘70s and ‘80s. These elements highlighted Heidi’s fascination with the processes of shedding, transformation and renewal. Bucher’s employment of water, with its ablutionary qualities, and the dragonfly, as an embodiment of metamorphosis, represented her vision of breaking free from the constraints and traumas that haunt both one’s past and present.
