BENEDICT DREW: THE ANTI ECSTATIC MACHINES
Sep 22 - 30, 2018
A song in digital video, painting and sound, Drew’s source material is a body of film he has shot in 16mm at sites around the south of England. 16mm film marks a new development in the artist’s practice, who has transferred the analogue footage into digital video for editing. Locations such as the port at Dover, the industrial greenhouses of Thanet Earth and new-build residential housing developments become material for a body of work whose backdrop is the social and political fall out of Tory austerity and the EU referendum. The 'Machines' of the title here stand in for forces at work in the socio-political climates we live in.

Nov 16 - 18, 2018 FINAL WEEK
A 3-day continuous spoken-word performance by Naomi Pearce. Taking its title from a structural unit of compact bone, OSTEON draws on 92 Webster Road’s past lives. Pearce will speak about bone as a storage device, a material which, like an archive or a building, records past events on its surface and in its substance.

The artist spent a year in a teaching mortuary observing cadaveric dissections and forensic anthropology practicals. Here she continues recent attempts to test the limits of a somatic approach to writing history and develop a way of articulating the architecture of artist studios in bodily terms.

AMIKAM TOREN: SAFE CITY
Nov 24 - Dec 2, 2018
Private view Fri Nov 23 6pm - 9pm
Spanning 28 years of his practice the exhibition will bring different facets of Amikam Toren’s multifarious practice into play.

The exhibition takes its title from Safe City (2017 – ongoing), a sculptural work in which Toren has gathered and preserved banana skins from around the streets of London. Delighting in their organic formal simplicity the artist has followed and pursued a personal compulsion over an extended period to see it where it takes him.

The exhibition includes Untitled (kill rushdie) (1990), from Toren’s ongoing series of Armchair Paintings alongside Jessica (2018) from his new series Frameworks.

JOHN WALTER: BOOZE GUITAR
